You and I watched the sky turn red
as we stood upon the black and cracking earth
Two ravens were perched up on the roof
of crumbling prison chapel ruins
We watched the people as they marched up the hill
slowly slipping right out of their skin
The ravens collected the discarded flesh
and hid it away in the boughs of a tree
With a phonograph set in your belly
I'll rest my head and listen to
the dance of the dead
as the leaves of flesh
fall in an autumn breeze
We wrapped ourselves up in a cocoon
where we were safe and warm
Floating in each others arm we'll sleep
soundly as outside the world falls apart
I never was good at sleeping before
I could never get it right
But now my eyes never want to open
and this is a trick I learned from you
With a phonograph set in your belly
I'll rest my head and listen to
a music box that's breaking down
as the needles dance
around your bones
I long for the days when the skies were all grey
and I held you in my arms
But I donned a demon mask and I laughed
as our home was engulfed
Now a picture of you in your wedding dress
is all that remains
And I only pray that one day you'll forgive me
for what I have done
With a phonograph set in your belly
I'll rest my head and listen to
the dance of the dead
as the leaves of flesh
fall in an autumn breeze
With a phonograph set in your belly
I'll rest my head and listen to
a music box that's breaking down
as the needles dance
around our bones
Interesting.
